Here’s a complete poker glossary for those who are beginning the game or are in the intermediate stage. Understanding the terms are very important as this would give you an added advantage. Try to understand what each of the terms mean and how effectively can you use them at the table.
A game – is the game that is played with the highest investment in any particular area.
ABC player – a player who bets after a predictable pattern is called ABC player.
Able – a term used for old player immediately on the left of the dealer in games that make use of forced bets, or blinds.
According to Hoyle – a phrase used to emphasize the proper rules of the game more so like the term “according to Bible” and so on.
Act - is said to deliberately give false information about a player of his hand.
Action – includes control, increase, betting and folding during the game. The game where players play many pots is also considered “action” in the game.
Angle - Any act which is against the rules is called angle and is considered unfair tactics.
Acted - the player acted only when he or she passes
Advertise - the process to bluff with the intention to be exposed as a player.
Alcohol – an imitation of the call. ” It is a declaration of a player who will make the slightest effort when required to continue in the hand and is in no way to be associated with alcoholic beverages.
All In - Rank Player money in the pot. Also known as the whole way.
Announce – declaring in the high / low games in hand with high or low.
Ante – The commitment required of each player to start the game before processing cards.
Apple – Big game, often the largest in the casino or club.
Artist – the name of a trickster who manipulates the deck.
As Nas - A Persian game many believe is a precursor of poker.
Assigned Better - the first player to play a round.
Automatic – the player can bet on the situation.
